Courts Services

Maintaining the highest ethical standards is paramount. The Village court handles criminal matters up to and including class A misdemeanors, violations and infractions. The court also handles small claims matters up to $3,000 dollars and civil matters relating to landlord tenant disputes that include evictions. The court is responsible for hearing cases that require orders of protection. The bulk of the court's work is associated with the New York Vehicle and Traffic Law. Other responsibilities are Arraignments, Pretrial Hearings, rendering decisions, trials and state mandated reports. The Court Clerk's responsibilities are what keeps the court functioning in a smooth, professional, and efficient manner.

It's imperative for the community to understand that the activities and duties of Village Magistrates are governed by the Administrative Judge. Rules of engagement surrounding participation in certain community activities and discussing active legal proceedings are very specific and must be followed at all times.
